Some Fun Finds...
Wednesday, January 5, 2011
We did some thrift store shopping this week...always a great way to spend some time! I found a lovely vintage Italian tole candleholder...don't you just love all the chippy flowers? And look at this charming lot of little English Meakin dishes~ they have a decorative crazed finish with delicate florals. They'd be lovely with pretty little soaps...
I found a 60's-early 70's era polished cotton bed ruffle/skirt with pleats~ it is new in the package and I love the colors and striping...
Lots of great pre-gathered fabric for projects!
Look at this old, petite leather suitcase...
I really love the monogram...
Books are always a favorite...
as well as some vintage sewing patterns...love the aprons...
This large deco era glass vase was a surprise find! Probably Czech, it is hand painted with poppies...
One of my favorite finds this week was this wood bowl! It was carved from one block of wood and has beautiful wood grain markings...
On the lighter side, look at this fun vintage animal lotto game~
There was a vintage birthday card inside... so cute!
Finally, this vintage wood US map puzzle has lots of fun pieces for crafting...
It's always a fun day!

Great finds! You are going to have to pass on what you will do with the map puzzle pieces. I have several, but all I see is puzzle pieces:-)
ReplyDeleteLove the wooden bowl!! Vicki
I want to go thrifting with you! My heart is going pitter patter over the vintage suitcase. I have a thing for linens, too. You'll have to share what you do with the bedskirt. Loads of great finds!

So many great things as always Linda. The McCalls patterns are great.
ReplyDeleteWhat wonderful treasures you found. I was goint to say my favorite was the old suitcase and then I say the vintage apron pattern. The apron pattern is my favorite. I love vintage patterns but the apron patterns are hard to find. My sister and I have found a few.

Linda, you have me just itching to get out and thrift, I love the suitcase and flower candle holder. I have been so overwhelmed with holiday visitors that just left on Sunday, I am just getting back into the swing of things. My booth was deleted by a New Years sale so I have been working to get that restocked and then I am back on the hunt....Can't wait! I am glad the weather has calmed down up there, I am thinking this could be a really bad winter, we had temps in the 30's B4 Christmas.

What great finds Linda! I love that suitcase and those bone dishes. I have some pretty brown transferware ones with lots of crazing...love that :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a fabulous haul! Those Meakin dishes are gorgeous!
ReplyDeletelove that suitcase and the vintage patterns! you scored some awesome treasures. look forward to the puzzle piece project.
ReplyDeleteLinda, how great you did.
ReplyDeleteI love the candleholder and sweet plates, the suitcase is fantastic, too.
I wish we had such places to go hunting here on my island :)
XO,Dorthe
Love those sweet dishes & your game! The birthday card was such a fun bonus :-)
ReplyDeleteGreat finds all of them. Besides the obvious, that suitcase, I love the dainty plates, patterns, and the map puzzle pieces! I actually have one of the states puzzle maps on my desk to help me see where all my blog friends are. I'm a bit challenged when it comes to geography, so the puzzle is a perfect tool for me. ;)
ReplyDeleteLove your finds...my favorites are the bowl, puzzle piece and suitcase! You need to put some magnets on the back of those puzzle pieces and be done! How fun! Wouldn't it be great to do funny things like put a little plastic flamingo on Florida and a dairy cow on Wisconsin? So retro. I wooden puzzle pieces.
ReplyDeleteLook at all your goodies...love that suitcase too.
ReplyDeleteI haven't been thrifting since before Christmas...I'm hoping to get out for a bit this morning :)
Enjoy your day, Laurel
Terrific finds Linda!!! I love the crazing on those dishes...You did awesome!
ReplyDeleteThat suitcase is cool. Makes me wonder who the person was who owned it. You always find the best stuff!

Now you just fill that little ol' suitcase with all that booty and send it this way. Here's my address....
ReplyDeleteSeriously though, that was a good haul.
I got a box full of handpainted Meakin dishes in the 70's for $15 and did a poor job shipping them to Alaska but I still have some that survived, I'll show you sometime when I return. ( I should have saved the itsy bits and pieces!)
I've been kind of hooked on collecting game pieces and game cards lately and haven't made a thing with them. I love the little Maine wooden puzzle piece that showed up on top of the heap. Let me know if you'd like to trade it for something.
xoxo Kim
Hi Linda!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun time, indeed!!! Those dishes are the best. Well, the suitcase as well. But then I keep scrolling down and it just gets better and better!!!

ReplyDeleteIt seems like you used to be able to find cute little soaps everywhere but I don't see them anymore - possibly because I do all my shopping at Walmart or GW :-D I need to make a point of looking for some!!
I want to go shopping with you!! I always find fun vintage books to do projects with, but then I just can't bring myself to tear them apart...I think I will read them first and maybe that will make it easier! Love everything you found!

ReplyDeleteOh my I am really jealous of the vintage patterns. Haven't found any of those around my neck of the woods. And the wooden map puzzle pieces, gosh that was one of my favorite toys to play with when I was a little girl!Greta finds!~Ames
ReplyDeleteOkay, girlie,
ReplyDeleteI need to find
out some of your
sources! Great
items, all : )
When I was out
west I went to the
Monticello Antique
Mart in Portland
and they had framed
vintage pattern
envelopes in the ladies
restroom and I remember
thinking what a cute
idea that was.
Have a wonderful
weekend and stay warm!!

Hi Linda, Many great finds! This is too funny...I have the same birthday card saved in a scrapebook. It was given to me by my cousin on my 5th birthday. I don't normally tell my age but I'll make an exception. lol! The card is from 1959. Yes, the card and I are both vintage.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Sherry
You always find the best stuff! You must have some great thrift stores around you (plus you have the eye for knowing what's a good thrifty, vintage piece). I always love a good old suitcase so that's probably my favorite.
ReplyDeleteJane
Such FUN finds! I haven't been thriftin in a month! ohhh! I need to go!
ReplyDeleteI put a pack of the makeup remover wipes right next to my bed and take my makeup off as soon as I get in bed, I am loving it!
Isn't it silly.... it takes such little time!
Have a pretty day!~
Kristin
