I thought I'd take a one post break from the Bachman's Fall Ideas House- you can visit the last couple of posts here to catch up, if you've missed them! Lately I've seen many fun projects using globes! I remembered a project I did several years ago for Halloween and decided to share it as a simple project! Just find a globe at a thrift store or garage sale- doesn't matter if the globe surface is damaged and newer ones work fine, too. I painted it out in a golden tone, and antiqued it to look like a harvest moon. You can see one side of the globe isn't perfect...
Martha Stewart has a great Witch Silhouette on her site! It's pictured below...There's a template there which can also be re-sized for windows. I decided to use it for my moon.
I used a standard graphite paper transfer to the globe for the template, and painted the witch with black craft paint. If you leave the painted globe on the globe stand, it looks like the witch is flying around when you spin it!
I decided to take mine off the stand this year and put it on top of a tall, chunky, black wood candlestick! I'm thinking I need to do a big "Man In The Moon" face next! So many fun possibilities!

This is awesome Linda! Now I must go find an old globe or orb of some sort!! Love this!!!
ReplyDeletePretty cool! I just came across an old, but not good globe, that my parents had. It's all faded and just on a crummy plastic stand...perfect for this! I was wondering what I could do with it not wanting to just throw it out.
ReplyDeleteWay cute!

What a fun idea, Linda! Yes, the man in the moon would be perfect for your next project! I suppose you could use an old bowling ball for this project too, but that might get kinda heavy:)
ReplyDeleteReally, really cute idea, Linda! I may just have to try this. Do you think my hubby would mind if I borrowed the great big one in his office?;>) xo Diana

Linda, this is such a good use of a globe! Darn, I got rid of one about a year ago. I'll just have to pick one up on half off thrift store day!
