Yesterday, I found a pair of framed butterflies at the thrift store! I love nature items, though to be honest, I would rather see these butterflies flying outside!
One thing I wasn't really fond of...the paper identification labels...
That was easily changed, though! I got out my vintage labelmaker
(you can still find these in the thrift stores)...
made a new identification label for each,
and placed it on the glass right over the paper label.
I think it gives the more modern naturalist feeling I prefer.
You could do this on botanical prints, too.
The Graphics Fairy has many butterfly graphics that you could use to make your own!
A simple change... with a big result!
Until next time...
Cute AND simple, that's my idea of a great project. I also noticed that Target has repro plastic tape label makers, cool that!!
ReplyDeleteWow, I can't believe your labelmaker is still in the box!! I've got one too, left over from my paper scrapbooking days. Great find at the thrift store and I'm sure the butterflies appreciate the funky new labels!
ReplyDeleteThe new labels look so much better and way more "you". I have got to get my hands on one of those label makers. I had one as a kid and loved it. I had forgotten all about them, but now I want one - - bad!
ReplyDeleteI remember those label makers Linda. What a good idea. We have many many butterflies in our yard because of our enormous lantanas and I find intact butterflies, dead, in the grass frequently.
ReplyDeleteI very much enjoy your blog. Thanks for the memory of those punch label makers. My father always used them and I remember loving to make the labels. What a great find to get one complete.

Wow Linda
ReplyDeleteI love what you did. I remember my mom had one of those and I loved it. Have a wonderful week can't wait to see what else you will share with us.

Oh I LOVE those butterflies! I'd love to find something like that for my son's room. Great idea with the label maker...I had one just like that when I was younger. Hope you're surviving the cold weather :)
ReplyDeletelooks great linda! and did you know...if you cut a piece of card stock the same width of the tape used in the label maker...and then thread that piece of card stock into the machine instead of the black tape...type out your words...you get an embossed label instead...
ReplyDeleteLooks much better with the new labels! Great idea!
ReplyDeleteLove your numbers on the lamp shade!
Keep WARM!!

Neat find,Linda. And a good idea to use your label maker. I have one too, but never think to use it.
ReplyDeleteLynn
I never had a label maker as a child, but always wanted one. Great idea to make your butterflies look more industrial chic!
ReplyDeleteNow that's my kind of project! Quick and simple.
ReplyDeleteLinda- those are just beautiful. Love the use of the label maker-genius! xo Diana
ReplyDeleteI remember those label makers! I like the graphic quality the labels add to the butterflies. Lovely! xx
ReplyDeleteNice find! I would have bought them and changed the name tags as well. :)
ReplyDeletePS- Thank you for joining in my first link up!
Oh yes, much better. I'll have to keep my eyes open for one of those label makers maybe at a yard sale or thrift store.
ReplyDeleteSo much better now! Great idea. You're so creative! Love the lampshade too. I love little lamps and lampshades. They really warm up a home on a cold winter night. I see that you have a space at an antique store in Mankato. Have you read the Betsy Tacy books? They are set in the town of Mankato. Loved those books when I was a little girl. Always wanted to visit Mankato. :) Mimi
ReplyDeleteBig difference! I wouldn't have even thought of that! Ann
ReplyDeleteJust hello dear Linda, being sick with the coughing bug,-I`m not very fit those dayes !
ReplyDeleteLove the butterflys with labels!
The new label made a "world of difference". Great job. I have one of those old labelers from a thrify store. They are fun to use in projects.
ReplyDeleteWhat a neat find! The labelmaker labels were the perfect touch. Happy Weekend!
ReplyDeleteI love your improvements! The older labels are perfect...I used to have one of those label punches...but have no clue whatever happened to it. I must have parted with it accidentally on one of my moves or something. You just made me wish I had one.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing.

Pretty! Makes me want to sketch butterflies again! LOVE that vintage label maker!
ReplyDeleteThis is very cool. I'd love to have you link this up with What to Do Weekends. Hope to see you there. Linda

I like the 'new' look so much better!

I'm dying that you called the label maker vintage! I used one of those until a year or two ago when my husband gifted me with one of the new fangled ones. I miss my old one!
ReplyDeleteOh I love butterfly pictures. I would love to make some but I don't know if I would have the heart to kill the butterflies. Yours are so pretty and I love your new labels!
ReplyDeleteVery lovely! I love butterflies, and like you I'd rather see them flying around than pinned on my wall. But, we actually have a framed set of butterflies that came from Africa. It's really beautiful, but I can't seem to find a place where it really fits.
ReplyDeleteI like what you did with the label maker, it just looks more authentic, somehow.
The black label looks so much better with the black frame. I agree, I would rather see the butterflies outside. But they are what they are now, so someone might as well enjoy their beauty.
ReplyDeleteLove the black labels, Linda! I've never seen the label maker at any thrift store here, so I'm off to see what happens when I google it!

ReplyDeleteSuch a big improvement and a fabulous thrift store find! Where are you going to put them?
ReplyDeleteThat brings back memories. I had one of those label makers. That is a great find. Happy New Week.
