With the extreme cold here this week, it was a good time to stay indoors, work some more on the kitchen redecorating, and get some projects done! Guess the cold is good for something! One project I did was a sign for the kitchen wall. I had some old painted boards I found at a garage sale last year, and cut one to a 4 foot length.
I've transferred patterns in many ways, but decided to try something a little different! I knew I wanted to have 6" high letters, so I dug into my letter stickers...
I used painters tape to make a guide for a straight edge,
and placed the stickers (which are removable) along the tape...
I used a pencil to trace around the stickers...
and removed the stickers, and I can re-use those in a later projects.
I used painter's tape along any straight edges that I could
and then painted the letters in with black paint...
Once the sign was dry, I lightly sanded the letters for a distressed look. I was really happy with how this sign turned out! I think it will be great in the kitchen...
Somebody likes to follow me around while I work...
Sophie is such a curious little pug...
Bailey, on the other hand...
Is the cold inspiring you to get some indoor projects done, too?
I am joining...
Until next time...stay safe and warm...
Your work looks beautiful:)
ReplyDeleteThat is great and is going to look good in your kitchen. Have a great day!
ReplyDeleteHi Linda, Sophie and Bailey are adorable! We just recently got an English bulldog puppy and let me tell you he is a hand full!! Love the sign....can't wait to see your kitchen. Enjoy your day, Gail
ReplyDeleteLove your sign, Linda! You'll have to show it to us hanging in your kitchen. I did a sign for the first time a few months ago. I am a shaky person with no artistic ability and I did a transfer method {rubbing the pencil lead on the back of letters I printed out}. I'd like to do one for our home office that I've seen on Pinterest recently and was thinking of using letter stickers but peeling them off after I paint the board the main color. Can't think of what this is called at the moment, but as long as the stickers peel off well, I think it might work.
ReplyDeleteI really like the sign - you have a steady hand! I'm loving your wood floors!! My wood floors are in desperate need of refinishing and I really would like to go darker. And your dogs...adorable! Looks like Sophie is looking for those fresh eggs!

The sign turned out great! I love the way Sophie is checking it out.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun project, Linda! It turned out great, what a great idea to use the stickers. Looks like Sophie approves:)
ReplyDeleteThe facial expressions on your cute pug are priceless! Great project, BTW.
ReplyDeleteYou are on a DIY roll! Love your new sign so much. Sophie is adorable and I wish I could look as comfy as Bailey. I haven't had much time to do too much with the kids home two days. I feel like this week is just going to fly by and I won't accomplish anything! Maybe that means I'll be well rested up for next week. LOL.

What a face! I just want to kiss it! Smoooooch! Your sign is wonderful - thank you for tutorial! What a fun way to spend a cold, winter day. I am doing a bit of embroidery to pass the time. These late winter days just seem to drag...... Thanks for the inspiration! xo Karen

I love the sign, but I really came here to see the pug! I had a pug for 14 years and she was my little girl. Ginger is in heaven now, but she was the best dog anyone could ever have!
ReplyDeleteAww...your Ginger sounds so sweet...
DeleteLinda, your sign turned out great! And those pics of Sophie are precious...oh, that face! :)

Cute sign! But, even cuter dogs! Pugs are so sweet...both my sister and my aunt have one. They're sisters from the same litter - Penny and Phoebe. :-)
ReplyDeleteCute Pugs and I love their names, I love your sign too!
ReplyDeleteI love looking at your little doggies! Bailey and I feel the same way…tired. Your sign turned out so good, Linda! You'll have to show us where you hang it. By the way, I love your wood floor :)
