Details, Details...

Thank you for all of your kind comments on my last post!  We are really enjoying the kitchen/dining space!  Today I'll share a few of the details...

When I found these lovely old Johnson Brothers dishes at the thrift store, I was inspired by the color and decided to use it in the redecorated space.  With the hutch top painted black, everything shows up so much more.  I also added cup hooks...

I took an old wooden box and turned it into a holder for bottles.

I made a label "Flaskers"...Norwegian, which translates into English...bottles.
 I'll share a tutorial soon...

We added board and batten...it is painted with Behr's Swiss Coffee, as are the cabinets.  The wall color is Benjamin Moore's Edgecombe Grey...
a light greige color with a nice warm gray look...

The rug is from Lowes...allen + roth.  I love the color,
as well as the Scandinavian feeling...

The "wood" floor which so many of you have loved, is actually a laminate with a 40-year wear warranty.  It has the look and feel of a hand scraped wood floor.  We love the look better than hardwoods we looked at, and with 2 dogs and lots of grandkids...it was the perfect choice!  It is a floating, glueless floor with easy installation.

The "Fresh Eggs" sign was one I created for the space over the doorway...
you can check out the tutorial...

Angie from Knick of Time has this great graphic available as an instant download in her etsy shop for just $1.50.  I had it enlarged at Staples as an architectural print and attached it to a yardstick backed with magnetic tape.  It covers the big black hole on the side of the refrigerator in such a decorative way...

This early 1900s chalk roses drawing was done by a 12-year old girl...

I love using vintage hangers to hold artwork...

I found this modern clock in the thrift store recently, and distressed it for a great look.  The gooseneck lamp, terrarium, and beautiful bottle are all
garage sale or thrift store finds...

Don't you love this old typing table?  Such great legs and an old wood top...

Bread boards, including a fun Scottie Dog, are gathered in a wood tote I decorated...
you can check out the tutorial here.

The little pig is new, but so cute...

The back of an old chair and a metal clip, hold a lovely old cow print...

In the kitchen, the subway sign is a great looking reproduction...
I love the old ones but they are pretty spendy...

This corner of the kitchen has a little coffee and tea station...

Aren't these the cutest tea cups?  They're a recent thrift store find...

A vintage cookie jar holds utensils...

One of my favorite recent thrifting finds, is this lovely English banded pitcher...
looks so pretty with dried hydrangea...

The cabinet with chalkboards was created using contact chalkboard vinyl.  You just cut it to size and apply it, then season it by rubbing the surface with chalk and erasing it...

A Scrabble game wood tray was glued and screwed in from the back, to hold the chalk...

That's it for now...I'll be sharing a few tutorials soon!

I am joining~

Until next time...

  4. Love the Scrabble chalk shelf idea! Love all your ideas. Sweet coffee bar, and doesn't take up too much space. I have old electrical, so space my small appliances out. (Can't even use the electric can opener: it shuts the electricity down and I don't have a modern fuse box.) You have such wonderful ideas. I would love to implement some of them.

  11. I must have a tutorial on your board and batten. I know it's probably along the lines of "cut boards and nail to wall", but I need it spelled out for me. Or you can send your husband down here to do it for me :) Seriously, love the whole kitchen!

  15. So, so pretty!! I was just typing "love all your attention to detail" when I looked up and saw the previous commenter said the exact same thing! I love the floor and wall colors but it's all the little details that makes it feel so wonderful and homey! I also took note that a lot of what you accessorized with was found at thrift stores….goes to show it doesn't take a lot of money to make a beautiful home.

  31. I love the transferware dishes you scored! Your whole kitchen is lovely. Every time I look at your kitchen posts it makes me more motivated to get this one finished but I'm afraid it won't be totally done until next winter. But you have given me some ideas! I scored on a large bread box like yours that I plan to use, somewhere. So many things we have are so similar yet will end up looking so different! You have done a remarkable job! It's beautiful! (I finally decided on the wall color, I'm going with the Behr Cottage White, whew...glad that's decided!) :)
