Finished with our kitchen redecorating, we are now moving into the connecting living room! This is not a major re-do...just lightening up the space and making it harmonious with the other rooms. I started off with a dresser makeover, a piece which we have had for years. It's been used in many rooms, but for the last several years
has provided storage in the living room.
It's a 1942 chest on chest, that had seen better days...
Lots of wear...
So, I had no problem painting the wood and giving the piece new life. I used DecoArt Americana Chalky Finish Paint in the Timeless color.
The color looks lighter here because of the bright room light... it is actually close to the paint can lid...a warm tan. I gave the piece 2 coats of paint and topped it with clear wax. I distressed it down with a sanding block, in wear areas. A small amount of dark wax was mixed with some clear wax to have a light tint and I brushed it over the piece, concentrating it heavier over areas I wanted to accent. Wiping off the excess as I worked, I let it dry then buffed it out with a soft cloth.
I love how it turned out and it looks great in the room!
I'll share more about that later, as the room progresses!
I am a blogger for DecoArt, but received no compensation for this post...all opinions are my own.
I am joining~
Until next time...
Linda, that's gorgeous! I have that very same dresser in my husband's garage. It was his dresser in his room when he was growing up, but he uses it for tool storage now. Lots of greasy grimy tools. I may have to steal it back from him and give it a new non-greasy life.
ReplyDeleteIt looks great, Linda! It's so nice when you have a piece like this that you can paint and totally give it a new look and feel.
ReplyDeleteTerrific transformation!
ReplyDeleteYou saved that piece. Well done.
ReplyDeleteWhat a perfect candidate for a face lift. I love how it turned out...great color too.
ReplyDeleteI love pieces like this - they can be used so many places! Your makeover made it just adorable. :)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful makeover Linda. I have a piece in my foyer that needs one really bad. Thanks for sharing at NTT.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Linda
It looks wonderful! Isn't it great how even though it was worn and you have had it for many years, you were able to freshen it up, give it a new life, and find a whole new use for it. I'm not familiar with that brand of paint . . . Can you tell me more about it?
ReplyDeleteLove the new look for the old chest. I like that you kept the chunky knobs, too. They add real character and a nice punch. Great transformation!
