Two Little Thrift Store Makeovers...

It is definitely winter here with single digit temperatures and snow covering the ground!

There's lots more indoor time now, so lately I have enjoyed working on simple projects for holiday and winter decorating!  Thought I'd share a couple of them with you today!
Recently, I found this little wood cabinet at the thrift store.  It's newer with a not-so-nice stain color.  I did like the wire door accent, so a makeover was in order!

I used DecoArt Americana Chalky Finish paint, in the Everlasting color.   Lightly distressing with a sanding block, adding a coat of their clear wax,
followed by buffing, completed the project.

I added a primitive little wreath for the season...I love the simple look!

While I had my paint out, I decided to makeover a star I found at the thrift store, too!  I forgot to take a photo of the front before I started, so here's one of the back, so you can see the original colors.  It was a dark brownish red, with a wood edge.

Using the same techniques as the cabinet, the star was transformed...

I love the way the distressing brings out the detail...

Now it hangs on my corner cabinet, adorned with a petite wreath!

These quick and easy projects brought new life to thrift store finds!

I am a blogger for DecoArt and received product used for the projects.
All opinions are my own.

I am joining...

Until next time...

  16. Your transformations are always wonderful, I love the new look of both items! Your cold weather is headed our way, but thankfully there is no snow in the forecast. We got plenty of rain today, but it was too warm to be anything other than liquid sunshine. Have a great week!

  18. Linda, the white chalky paint makeovers seem perfect for these pieces. You always have that knack for knowing what to do with your finds. I so admire that.. BTW--I wanted to thank you for stopping by and leaving such a wise, kind comment. I liked how you said you never decorate to blog, you blog about what you're doing in your life. It's such a simple, genuine way to approach blogging and I needed to hear that. You are one of a kind my friend!

  25. Stay warm and cosy, and best keep creating your inspiring beauty. Love the cabinet, reminds me of a French cheese safe, or a Mimi jelly cupboard. You could even hang it on a wall somewhere, and do as you did in the photo with hanging a wreath on it, with filling the shelves with vintage Christmas ornaments. It's really a sweet piece and I am inspired to do a cabinet now.
I just finished a small altar that I hope to share real soon.

    See you soon.
