Fun Christmas Thrift Store Finds...

I love going to thrift stores right now...they are full of Christmas goodies...and it's fun to shop for treasures! Last week, I stopped at one to see what I could find...

I found a bag of cut-out wood ornaments with glittered centers...each had a jute tie.  It inspired me to hang a piece of jute over the doors in the dining room
and tie the ornaments on as a simple garland...

I thought it was a cute addition to the Scandinavian style decorating we are doing in that room this Christmas!  I'll be sharing more of it with you soon!  The little Norwegian Jule Nisse in the wreath was a gift from my mother-in-law, 30 years ago.
It was painted by L. Hoeg in Decorah, Iowa (my husband's hometown).
Decorah is a town of deep Norwegian heritage...the King and Queen of Norway have even made a few visits.  I did a post about the town a couple of years ago...
it is very beautiful, with a real sense of history!

And look at this cute vintage plaster jolly Santa...he's about 8" high...
who could pass up this cute face?

He's meant to hold a candle...but I thought he would be perfect for this...

So cute!

I found a few Santa mugs to add to my collection...the mugs on the right and left have Santa on one side and Mrs. Claus on the other...

I never pass up crafted ornaments...I remember the fun times my sister and I had making them, when I was young...

This is a newer Santa planter...
I love how it looks with one of my vintage bottle brush trees...

Have you had any fun Christmas finds lately?

I want to thank you for all of your kind comments on my last post...I had a lot of fun playing around with some whimsical decorating!

Until next time...

  1. Hi Linda, Great finds! Love the way the wood ornaments look as garland. And how cute are the Santa mugs with Mr and Mrs Clause on either side?! The hand crafted ornaments are fabulous too.

  2. Linda- You found some great things. I love those wooden cut outs with the glitter. They are so cute and so is that Santa. He looks like the 40's or 50's to me. I have not been thrifting in a LONG time! xo Diana

  3. hi Linda you always find awesome stuff. These are all adorable. Love the hand crafted ornaments, they are so beautiful.
    hugs from Toronto
    Hope you are doing great

  4. What a fun post! The Scandinavian theme is one of my favorites.

I no longer look for vintage decorations. I have more than 50 years collection of Shiny Brite and similar glass ornaments, home-crafted felt ornaments and ephemera that will much too soon need to find new homes.

I put little rooted cuttings of Christmas Cactus just big enough to have a few blossoms into Santa mugs. Did I see that idea on your blog?

  5. What a cute way to show off those fun ornaments! I can't wait to see the rest of your Scandinavian Christmas decor.

  6. Linda, I love your new decorations. Those little trees are adorable. Blessings, xoxo,Susie

  7. I couldn't agree more about thrifting this time of year--all kinds of fun treasures waiting to be discovered! Great finds & adorable garland! Blessings, Cecilia

  14. Love your style, sweet friend.
I'm a fan of those pretty homemade
    ornaments, too. I remember when
my mom and Gigi were into making
them! And Scandi style is so calm
    and inspiring -- love it.

    See you tomorrow!

    xo Suzanne

  19. What great finds Linda! The ornaments are so cute and look like they were made to hang across your window. The sweet Santa looks so happy to have a new bottle brush tree to hang onto. and your new planter is perfect for your tree.

  20. In the past year, I found out my uncle (my mom's brother) bought out a thrift store in Georgia-- he has been having fun running it. But he said that if he could rent the space next door-- he could have a YEAR 'ROUND Christmas store...AND FILL IT UP!
So much of his stock is donated you know, and there's lots of Christmas stuff. :)

    1. Oh! and I meant to say,
Linda... those wooden ornaments.. Are adorable! I like how you have them displayed. The Santa Mugs are cute too!
who can pass up those cuties?

  23. Love those wooden ornaments -- they really look sweet as a garland! And the bottle brush tree is perfect for that jolly Santa! Love those ornaments too, they always fascinate me with rick rack and sequins :)

  24. Oh my goodness...those Santa mugs are just so darn cute and I like how you displayed the wooden ornaments.

  25. I'm with you! Love thrift stores this time of year! Makes me want to get out there right now! The wooden ornaments look fantastic in your window! It must be so cheery around your place about now.

  26. Hi Linda! I love the Scandinavian look too and the wooden ornament garland fits perfect for that! What great finds! I remember making those sequined ornaments too. My mom also made a ton for our tree. Great memories.
I hope you have a magical Christmas season.
    sending hugs...

  27. You found some wonderful goodies! I love the wooden cut outs made into a garland across your window! I think thrift stores are some of the best places to find unique holiday items.

  28. I love your new vintage finds, especially the sweet chalk Santa! I think vintage Christmas treasures add so much history to the holidays. Having family heirlooms along with vintage 'finds' make decorating so special. Love all your sweet finds, Linda. I found a red 'tobacco' tin and put sprigs of evergreens in it. So far that is all I've found this year, - oh, and a red and white crochet potholder! I clearly need to get out more :) Have a great week, my friend. Hugs xo Karen
