With the cold weather, I've been staying in and working on re-doing some thrift store finds. I usually have a stash of things ready for a makeover...and often just a quick coat of paint completely transforms them. I just finished three of these fun re-dos!
These all received white paint and a little distressing.
First, I found this wood clock...a school project, perhaps?
I like the lines of the piece...the finish, not so much...
Before...
After...
Now the clock is on my dining room hutch...
Another thrift store find was this new pair of pressed metal wall tiles...
they are decorative, but even brighter and shinier than they look in the photo...
Before...
After...
The metal surface on these, works with a magnet, so they have become fun message boards now...
The last project was this lovely hanging wall piece. Probably 50's era, it is a heavyweight composite substance made to look like an old architectural piece. I normally wouldn't re-do a pretty piece like this, but over the years, it has broken off in many big pieces and the exposed interior looks like a new gray surface, rather than old plaster. I don't mind chippiness on a piece, but the damage on this piece, just didn't look right.
Before...
After...
The top of the piece is open and it will be beautiful holding hydrangea...
I love a simple makeover and re-using thrift pieces in a new way...
I am joining~
Until next time...
What a difference a little paint can make. I love that decorative wall sconce and now you'd never know there was a chip in it. Thanks for the inspiration Linda.
ReplyDeleteGreat redos, Linda! Everything looks better with a fresh coat of creamy white paint, I think:) One good thing about Midwest winters is we can work on our projects inside! Stay warm!
ReplyDeleteLinda - All three pieces are just gorgeous - they look so much better than the original finish. Great job!

I am always amazed at the transformation that can happen with a little bit of white paint. Your items look great!
ReplyDeleteoooh, that wall sconce/shelf thingy is gorgeous, love the new coat of white!
ReplyDeleteI like the way those items turned out painted white. It's amazing what a little white paint can do!
ReplyDeleteYou did some wonderful makeovers of those pieces, Linda. Love how the clock turned out. I remember when I painted my flea market mantel clock black and gave it a whole new look. I still love it. You've reminded me that I have a few pieces here that I wanted to repaint. I should probably do them and get them out of my craft room and into my Etsy.
ReplyDeleteI like all of them... I've redone clocks... with a not so pretty finish, and gotten similar results. The tins, remind me of the look I WANTED...when I hung 'pressed tin wallpaper' on my backsplash in my kitchen. Yours looks way better, I think I put too much effort into my paper. ;)
ReplyDeleteThe amazing make over... the plaster wall pocket! OH, my...most people would probably toss it. But with the paint... well, it looks like plaster, and it definitely looks well aged. Perfect for hydrangeas!
you're so so clever. ;)
I love all of your "before and after's"! You've inspired me! We have a thrift store in my home town that always has so many things that I see potential in...if I just added a little paint!
ReplyDeleteI often get so caught up in hunting for holiday items that I forget to look for everyday items for my house. I think I better do more of that in 2015.....because goodness knows I don't need anymore Santa's or Snowmen! lol
Thanks for sharing!
Erica :)
Beautiful! Glad to see
ReplyDeleteyou are making the most

season for this very reason!

looooove!!
ReplyDeleteThe magnet holder was a great idea!!!
I love the designs on the metal wall tiles....what a great way to make them even better. And now the chip is not noticeable on the other piece. Great way to make it blend in. Enjoy your day! Hugs!
ReplyDeleteGreat makeovers Linda! I especially like the tin tiles. I like the idea of using them as magnet boards. Stay warm! Ann
ReplyDeleteI've been getting rid of colors just like that clock at our house, and now you have reminded me I have a dark clock tht can use a little something.
ReplyDeleteHi Linda! You amaze me with your talents! You always have some great project going on, and give such great ideas! I finally got a post done for 2015 and look forward to keeping up my blog more this year. See you around more soon!
ReplyDeleteIt always amazes me how paint can transform....and you use it so well :)

Blessings,
Linda
My kind of makeover, Linda! Paint totally changed that clock!
ReplyDeleteI Linda, all three are wonderful. I would do the clock in a heartbeat because tha's in my comfort zone. I am kicking myself after seeing your metal tiles -- i just saw two last weekend. I never thought about painting them and turning them into a fancy-dancy message board. Boy, oh boy, I like what tou did to that shelf. Very nice Old World look. I saw your link at the Vintage Inspiration Party. Ann Marie at Iris Abbey. www.irisabbey.com
ReplyDeleteThree super cool redos. Love that shelf! I have a few pieces that need a fresh start, too.
ReplyDeleteAwesome job!
Hugs,
Patti
