I have always loved vegetable gardening, but during the years we have owned our home, our yard has grown quite shady. Last year I tried planting a few tomatoes and peppers in containers in sunny spots, and had fun with it. This year, we decided to expand on it, adding containers all along the sunniest areas of an area we had fenced in years ago for a garden.
A couple of boxes along the fence for lettuce and radishes...
I love bright colors in the garden, and painted one box turquoise...
Pole beans and cucumbers are in tubs with bamboo trellises...
I brought out an old chippy screen door
and put my Handy Hauler in service...
Young plants...sweet onion, pepper and tomato...
Herbs...if you missed this re-do project last year, you can see it here.
Pretty flowers...
Bush zucchini and yellow squash are in the tubs, and my patio tomato plant has already grown a lot!
Hopefully things will get enough sun to grow well
and I'll share the garden again with you soon!
Thank you for all of your kind comments on my last post...
I so appreciate your visits and comments!
I am joining~
Until next time...
I love all your gardening touches! The containers on the fence are a great idea. Where did you get the bamboo bean trellises...did you make them? I need something like that!
ReplyDeleteThank you! I bought the trellis at the garden store- Bachman's, here, but I think most of the nurseries would have them. They open nice and wide or you can fit them to your smaller space like I did. These were from $9-$11 each depending on size, so they are reasonably priced. I think they would be so pretty in a flower garden, too!
DeleteAbsolutely beautiful! Very inspiring !!!! Thank you for sharing .... I love it all ...can't pick out a favorite as everything made my heart go pitter patter!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Julie!
DeleteLinda, I love your garden !! You should take photos as everything grows and show them. Something to post about all the time. I love your clever screen door and the handy hauler. Sweet. Blessings, xoxo,Susie

Thank you, Claudia!
DeleteSo creative and such a wonderful yard.
ReplyDeleteThank you! I love spending time out there!
DeleteYou have great containers for your gardening. Am planting rosemary and mint in containers near by kitchen door just so I can smell and enjoy them more
ReplyDeleteA wonderful garden Linda!!! We used a watering trough this year for our garden...we are going to need a ladder to pick our tomatoes...ha! Also planted in some galvanized tubs. I like your boxes on the fence...might need to do that too. Enjoy all your garden goodies when they are ready!
ReplyDeleteI can relate to not having much sun in a garden we only have one section that gets full sun, so the only veggie I grow are tomatoes and then have my herbs too. Where the sun is I want my roses and other favs that much have that precious sun. Love your containers and now I'm on the lookout for an old fertilizer spreader too! Do you find the container on the fence dry out quickly? Love the look!

ReplyDeleteI love your container garden! I haven't the time or resources to put in raised beds this year, so I believe I'll try gardening with containers too.
Creative! I love fresh veggies. Nice benches that your hubby made!
ReplyDeletewarmly,
deb
Beautiful! How awesome to
ReplyDeletegrow your own organic veggies
that also provide such eye candy.
I think I'd pull up a chair and just
hang out there with the veggies,
herbs and flowers : ) Well done!

You are so smart, Linda, and everything looks so great to boot! I have the same problem with so much shade in my yard. I've never tried as many plants as you have though. You are an inspiration. May get out for some zucchini seeds tomorrow! Love the turquoise window box by the way! :)

I love all your plants and veggies! I like the way they all go together and you are smart with the containers in the sun!
ReplyDeleteCharming garden, Linda! Great use of your space too! Blessings, Cecilia
ReplyDeleteYour garden is gorgeous! In my shop, I just sold two big galvanized tubs like you have there in the garden...now I'm wishing I had kept them! Isn't that the way it goes with us vintage things lovers and "doers"? Pretty and interesting blog. I'm going to add you to my blogroll!

Another move has taken me away from catching up. So glad I stopped by today. You have given me inspiration to try this a bit. I think I have a good spot to try first. Ann
ReplyDeleteI should have known that when you said containers you meant your kind of containers - vintage, rustic, original and so lovely.

Love your container garden. Love the idea of your added rustic garden accessories, they add a womderful touch.
ReplyDeleteI love how you used so many old fashioned items in your garden. Using the handy hauler as a place to plant was a good idea.
ReplyDeleteJust when I take down my window boxes you give me a purpose for them. Next year veggies it is.
ReplyDeleteIt's so inspiring to see all of your lovely vegetables growing so prettily. Love that red rocking chair Linda and always nice to see your 'handy hauler!'
ReplyDeleteWe are new to vegetable growing..... and it just makes me smile seeing the courgettes (zuchinni) with their pretty little flowers starting to grow..... lovely to see your patch and how pretty it all looks too :)

What a pretty garden, Linda! I love all of your vintage planters! So many sweet surprises ~ the tiny chair, the handy hauler, the screen door....and I just love the old blue jay whirly~gig! My Dad made Whirly~gigs and I have two. I hope you have success with your veggies this year, but even without the veggies, this garden is very charming. xo Karen
ReplyDeleteLinda, you have inspired me to make my garden pretty! I am going to use my old tubs and wheelbarrows! Your yard is wonderful.
