A Thanksgiving Mantel...

I've just returned from a fun family wedding in New Orleans and am finally putting away the last of my Halloween decor! Today, I put together a Thanksgiving mantel that can easily transition into the Christmas season. I like to use greens, pinecones, and wood elements...and this year I added lots of silverplate and candles...

The focal point of the wall is this wonderful chalkboard print from Dear Lillie. (Not being paid to share this...I just love her stuff!) She has wonderful prints and digital downloads...I bought this 24 x 36 print as a download and had it printed at Staples as an engineering print. I can easily change it out for Christmas!

I love the look of tarnished silverplate. I glued an old dented sugar bowl to a candlestick (with E-6000 glue) to create

this fun trophy-style candleholder...

Alabaster and old books

and a couple of bud vases on wood slices add to

the rustic luxe feeling...

For a Christmas mantel, I'll take out the feathers

and bring in vintage silvery ornaments...

I love the whimsy of pinecones in the sparkly bobeches!

Our old wall sconces give a little formality to the space...

It is beautiful with the candles on in the evening...

Your mantel is so great, you have so many of your very own ideas that inspire me to be more creative with what I have. The old sugar bowl,,.I have a very old tea set that I can't quite decide what to do with...you have two ways to use these pieces. The candlesticks may make their way somewhere in my fall/winter decor. Thank you, Linda!!!

The way it's going I'll be decorating for Thanksgiving the Saturday after, and the decorations will be turkey and taters. At the very least maybe I'll wipe off the chalkboards that say stuff like Happy Valentines Day and write something fall-ish.

Really love this, I plan on using all my tarnished silver for Thanksgiving too. I'm afraid the village for the Grand will still the spot for Christmas, but you never know! Thanks for the beautiful ideas and the white candles I bet are lovely lit, Sandi

Hi Linda, beautiful mantle! I am always amazed with how Americans start to decorate for Christmas really early...but I love it. In fact I think I might start beginning Dec because you get to enjoy a fabulous new look for two months instead of just a few weeks. Some people here only start 12 days before Christmas....which seems like a lot of effort for such a little time. Have a great week! Sharon x

Beautiful! Just beautiful! Is that really called an alabaster jar? I'm wondering if it's the kind uses to hold expensive perfume like what Mary poured out on Jesus in the Bible. Would love to have one of those!

Linda, I have been caught up in life of late and have missed several friends' recent posts, but was happy to see your feature on Ivy & Elephants so I could stop by to tell you how great your mantel looks. Pheasant feathers speak fall, and particularly Thanksgiving, loud and clear to me. Great job of adding height the with candlesticks and sugar bowl repurposed.

I have to add that I love your mantel too. Congrats on the features ... well deserved. When I saw the candles stick/sugar bowl, I thought it was a tall trophy. Love it and will likely copy that. Thanks for the inspiration.
