Bringing In A Little Green...

I am still in my "bring in spring" mood (and will be until until it's time to bring in summer). I love watching the seasons change!

Yesterday I stopped at the thrift store

and found this faux succulent wall hanging...

I like to use these because they work so well in areas of our home that are low light...and I can't kill them.

It had a nice wood frame, but was missing plants in many places. But I figured, if nothing else, I could use the parts.

I've mentioned before that I never miss checking out the floral area in a thrift store. You can find pieces like this hiding amongst the ratty looking stuff, and I have also found boxwood wreaths, topiaries, vases, planters...sometimes from well-known pottery companies. It's a great place to find seasonal decor. And once I found a large old demijohn!

Near the wall hanging there was a grab bag of green "moss" balls and some rope covered spheres. That came home with me, too.

I liked the bright green color, and decided these would make perfect filler for the missing plants...

And instead of hanging it on a wall...I thought the frame would be a perfect centerpiece. It's a great pop of color, and doesn't interfere with vision or conversation...

It works well with the natural placemats we use, too...

How clever are you with that centerpiece? I need to "think outside the box" more..I would've looked at that piece and thought, "Oh, darn, some of the plants are missing" and put it back. You are amazing! Where did you find the checkered piece of material for your table? I have a small oval-shaped wooden table in my kitchen (we don't have a dining room) and I normally don't like tablecloths and runners are too long. I've been looking for something else to partially cover the table. I would love to find something like you have! Thanks for any help.

What a great find and the filler looks awesome also. My first thought was as a centerpiece so great minds think alike!! I always check the faux flowers and have on occasion found some great items, sometimes in awesome vintage containers!!

I went to the thrift store today and it didn't have anything...hardly any Easter/spring or cool flowers like you bought!

That looks real, and by far easier on the memory - you don't have to remember to water. I have not been out to the thrift stores all Winter. Maybe next week.

Great score to find faux succulents at a thrift! Love what you did with them. I am playing with green as well. Using a lot of moss on my mantle and I have planted grass in pots that is growing nicely. I found a bag of moss balls at a thrift last week as well. Not as fluffy as yours, but still nice.

I actually thought the succulents were real before I started reading your post LOL They make a cute centerpiece :)

The scale you found is fantastic! Of course I would actually use it for what it's made for, but also maybe just holding fruit in the kitchen ;)

Hi, Linda, I have a ton of fake succulents inside because unlike the real thing, our cats don't eat those. Yours make a wonderful addition to your table as a fresh breath of green, perfectly seasonal.
