It's been awhile since I have shared a few of my collections with you!
Most of my collections happened by accident, just something I
found and liked...and then I realized I had a few. Are you like that?
Pretty old books call to me...
I use a corner cabinet in my living room to display some of
my little collections and natural history curiosities.
I have several trophies in here.
This one is a nice larger size, about a foot high, but I love it
because it is a first place trophy for...Polka Dancing!
This old box was a fun little project.
I made the label for the front...Flaskers...Norwegian for bottles.
There are old cork bingo balls, dog plates, shell boxes, and numbers...
This old shell box belonged to my husband's grandmother. I actually have quite a few other shell boxes and I plan to display and enjoy them all in one place. Sometimes you can still find them at the thrift stores.
I altered an old slide box as an art piece...a naturalist's box...
using vintage ephemera and goodies.
It's nice being surrounded by things that make you smile!
Do you keep a cabinet of collections?
Until next time...
Linda, I love the box with so many sweet things on display. I love old books and I have some small jars of shells too. The trophy is a beautiful piece. Can't find any of those around here. :) Blessings, xoxo, Susie
ReplyDeleteWhat fun collections! I do have a cabinet full of collections. Not as artfully displayed as yours I'm afraid, but things I love!
ReplyDeleteVery cool, Linda!! You really have an eye both for collecting and for displaying those collections! Hmmmm do I have collections? Books for certain....I'm a book nut. Also linens - tablecloths, napkins, runners, dishtowels, etc. Love them. If they are vintage I love them even more!
ReplyDeleteTruthfully, my house is a display case for my collections. I have themes for different rooms. Our living room will overlook a pond. I love to watch the wildlife and storms as they roll across & reflect in the water. Being able to relax with a quick fishing break is amazing & brings a person back to calm. Our living room is decorated with a collection of old fishing poles from our life at the ocean. We also keep our newer rods here for quick fishing. Part of my collections and themes are family pictures around the theme. Pictures in this room are fishing photos - first fish, biggest fish, largest catch, Great Grandparents to our own children. I have an old wooden box with a skeleton key full of shells my Grandparents collected in Cape Cod. I have a small collection of wooden birds, and jars of stones collected while hunting Petoskey stones in MI, kerosine lanterns, shells I collected from tidepool romps in S CA, old books & collector's field guides, baskets, and fish of different sorts. The library is my garden room. It overlooks one of our pastures, the turkey house & yard, and chicken coops. I have a collection of old tools, bee keeping items, bees, and an etching of my DH's Pepier in his bee keeping suit. Throughout our home I have chickens & turkeys of various types. My coffee table is an antique chicken crate. My biggest collection? The memories wrapped around each photo and item in my home. Thanks for sharing your lovely collections!
ReplyDeleteYour collections sound amazing...and I love how they are so personal to your family!
DeleteOh, this is so much fun....I love the shell box, I have one similar to the one behind it. They were often souvenirs and you still find them in some parts of the world, being produced unchanged for over 100 years. Love your little case with the treasures inside. Such a fun post, enjoyed very much, Sandi
ReplyDeleteLove your cabinet of collections. I have some of mine in my fall front desk. xo Laura
ReplyDeleteThank you, Laura! It's great to have them where you can easily see them!
DeleteBeautiful, Linda. I could spend a very happy afternoon browsing through these old books. I hope you'll give me a cup of tea :-)

ReplyDeleteIt is nice to be surrounded by our collections and things we love.. My problem is I have to many collections. Your cabinet is beautifully displayed.
ReplyDeleteI have a hutch that contains "naturals", like shells, rocks, seeds, pods, a turtle shell, etc. I call it my specimen cabinet. On top of that, I hung lots of things on the wall in the same room. If you follow my blog, you will see it March 1st and March 8th. www.wcaticus8.blogspot.com Follow now, so you won't miss it later!
ReplyDeleteI love your collections. It reminds me a bit of mine. I love your altered box that includes a collection in itself! The seashell boxes are nice, too. Thank you for sharing with us.

ReplyDeleteEverything is dreamy! Yes, my collections start out exactly the same way! I love the color scheme of all your treasures too!
