We spent the last several days working on projects at the lakehouse,
removing more carpet and prepping floors for sanding.
I also had a couple of thrift store finds and did a little project with one!

I found this nice wooden wall organizer for $6,
and knew it would make a good makeover project!
and knew it would make a good makeover project!
The wood, while pretty, wasn't exactly the look I wanted.
I started by painting it with a coat of chalk paint (this color is Relic from DecoArt) followed by a coat of DecoArt Americana light satin water based varnish.
I drew numbers on cardstock for the labels. I think it will be great for magazines, of course, but also for things like TV remotes, phones, tablets, and keys.
I left the interiors unpainted, so it will hold up to use wear.

I think it will be a very useful piece and it fits our decor more now!
The other find was this simple $2 basket.
I loved the look of the two different weaves and the tall rectangular shape.
With the flat sides, I knew if I added a wire loop on the back, it could easily be hung on a wall. Last fall, I picked up hydrangea clippings at the compost site, and dried them. They were perfect in the basket, and I hung it in the kitchen.
The basket color is lovely with our old 1949 cabinets.
I love low cost decorating!
Love the basket with dried hydrangeas in it
ReplyDeleteWe always have projects that's for sure haha
Great finds and you made them look so pretty!
ReplyDeleteBoth are pretty but the wall organizer is super cool. I must keep an eye out for one!!
ReplyDeleteSuper cute, Linda - you pick up the greatest deals!!!
ReplyDeleteThe organizer will be great for controlling clutter - I like the makeover you gave it! And the basket is super nice! I love it when I find a good basket at the a great price. Fun!
ReplyDeleteYour wall organizer turned out great. Love the color and that you left the interior the wood color. Nice basket too. It looks wonderful with the dried hydrangeas.
ReplyDeleteGreat finds Linda. I love the basket with the dried hydrangea's. Super pretty.

Kris
Those are both great finds, Linda. That organizer is perfect for magazines or anything really.
ReplyDeleteIt's an unusual basket with the two types of weaving. I like it.
I hope you have a great week- xo Diana
Your project turned out so nice. I really like the contrast between the paint & stain. I found a fun oval basket with a lid & 2 perfectly sized compartments for spare TP in the bathroom. I don't like to make guests feel like they are snooping when looking for another roll so, I found file labels similar to yours. They are with the scrapbooking supplies at HL. They have tiny paper brads that easily slip between the weave on the basket. It might be a fun addition to your flower basket. My find for the day was an interesting wood bowl -
ReplyDeleteperfect for our scrabble letters. I mixed about 4 sets of different colors & ages. We keep the Scrabble out to help improve our spelling & vocabulary. ;)
The file labels sound very cool...I will definitely look them up! I love the idea of the TP basket! Thank you for sharing!
DeleteI love how your projects are useful and pretty.
ReplyDeleteI do love hydrangeas fresh and dried :)

Cute projects! Hope you have a great week and are getting a little bit of a warm up in the weather!
ReplyDeleteVery nice makeovers, Linda! The magazine rack turned out so nice. I used that same paint color on my daughter's 'hat-box' cake for her baby shower. The basket looks so nice next to your beautiful cupboard. So exciting to get your floors started on the lakehouse! xx K
