Kitchen storage solutions are always on my mind lately!
The lakehouse kitchen doesn't have much storage. We are keeping the circa
1950 cabinets, and they are not as large as modern cabinets.
So I am having to be creative in finding storage.
One thing I did this week, was to bring in a simple bookcase.
It was actually in the closet in my studio space, back at the house.
The open back works well, allowing the brick wall to show
and enabling access to the light switch.
I wanted it to be attractive and functional.
It's a perfect place to hold some (I admit to having quite a few) of my cookbooks.
This basket will hold potatoes.
Dish towels are displayed in one of my vintage wood bowls.
It's across the doorway from the cabinet makeover and
wall storage project we did last year.
And I love the old rowboat oar that washed up on our beach!
There's more kitchen redecorating/storage projects to come...stay tuned!
Until next time...

Linda, I love the brick wall and the archways of your kitchen. Using the open bookshelves is a great way to have storage and cuteness too. You could get a couple more cookbooks under the linen bowl. :):) Blessings, xoxo, Susie
ReplyDeletep.s. congrats on winning the tote giveaway at Carol's. :)
Thank you, Susie! Great idea for cookbooks under the bowl! Thank you so much for your sweet comment over on Carol's blog...you are so kind!
DeleteSometimes, the simplest solutions are the best...love the bowl full of towels. Great way to show off vintage linens, too.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Sandi! We are trying hard to re-use pieces and do this frugally!
DeleteLinda, the shelf looks perfect there! I love that it looks nice but also stores handy things. I agree with Susie too, your house has some great features. ;)
ReplyDeleteThank you, Stacey! We are trying to honor the house style!
DeleteThe book shelf is a great idea. I love the brick wall and arched doorway. How unique and cool that is to have in your lake home. How fun to have these stay in tack for the personality of the cottage to come through. Enjoy this sweet cottage this summer.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Kris
Thank you, Kris! It's fun making this house, our home!
DeleteThe first thing I noticed was that beautiful vent cover, lol, love it! And those doorways, what a neat place. I always love all of your ideas! :-)
ReplyDeleteThank you, Cindi! We love it! You are so sweet!
DeleteStorage is always something I need. This looks great. I like how open it is but provides great storage. Well done.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Linda! Every little bit helps!
DeleteI used to have that same blue and white bowl you have. When are you moving? Is your house for sale?
ReplyDeleteBrenda
I was lucky to find several bowls from that set at thrift stores. They are so nice and heavy!
DeleteWe are moved half time now, still work to do before the other house goes on the market...but we're getting there!
I love this open shelf and I absolutely love your kitchen! So much charm and warmth. That brick wall and arched doorway are beautiful.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Melanie! We love the charm of this house, too!
DeleteThis was a great idea, Linda! So many times we take the space we have and use it to display our treasures, but in a kitchen, real estate is pricey! I really love your lakehouse. It is cozy and very homey!

Thank you, Jane! We have small closets, too, so we are cleaning out and being inventive!
DeleteI'm having the same issues with storage. Love the hand towel idea!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Kim! I love seeing the blue and white towels!
DeleteIt is all looking gorgeous.... I love how you displayed the oar you found washed up....

Thank you, Karen! I love old oars!
DeleteFirst of all...that oar!😍 What a find! And I love your shelf unit. It looks like it's perfect for the spot. Hurray for the extra storage! A perfect reuse.
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful week!
Thank you, Cecilia! I was thrilled to find that oar!
DeleteAnd you are right...extra storage is always a good thing!
The open bookcase orividesyiu great storage. Here at the charmer there's very little storage at all. Like yours small closers and the smallest linen closet. Moving is never easy but moving to your lake house would be a dream...
ReplyDeleteThank you, Cathy! It's worth all the work...and it's time to clean out, too!
