Some Christmas Decorating Ideas From Our Home...

As we head into Christmas week, I thought it was about time I share
some of the decorating around our home!

I've had a simple, natural decorating style the last few years, but this year I decided to pull out a few more boxes of my vintage collection and do a little more decorating!
I always love dressing up the dining room and kitchen...
this year, I was influenced by our Scandinavian heritage!
There are lots of photos and ideas, so I hope you'll grab a cup of coffee or tea
and sit back and enjoy your visit...

I loving using little tabletop trees to showcase some of my smaller ornaments
and have several of them in the house...

I've added red transferware to the aqua colors I had on the hutch...

This year I used lots of gnomes, elves, and deer...

The red wooden Norwegian rosemaled bowl was a wedding gift many years ago...

I love this old embroidered redwork cloth...

This hand painted Father Christmas was given to me by a dear aunt...

Here's a special Santa apron from my childhood...I shared this treasure several years ago, in one of my favorite posts.  Having lost my father this year, the old Christmas memories I shared are even more special to me!  I hope you take a moment to read about them...

I keep a coffee, cocoa, and tea station year round...red and white straws with a vintage Santa mug full of candy canes gives it a holiday feeling...

I painted this sign on an old board using a graphic from the design feature on PicMonkey{affiliate link}  I enlarged the graphic, transferred it, hand painted it, and finally distressed the paint, for a great look...

There are lots of old ornaments...

I found these little trees at the thrift store recently and gathered some of my vintage nativity figures beneath the branches...it decorates the breakfast bar...

I love the graphic look of a vintage cheese box...

The living room is decorated in several areas...and it's all about the tree...

Mixing many styles and colors of old game letters (I trim the paper ones to fit) gives a fresh whimsical twist to this easy project.  I use E-6000 glue to attach the letters to wood game letter trays...you could paint the trays in coordinating colors, too.

I bought a paper mache deer head at the craft store (using a half off coupon, it cost $6), painted it white, and hung it on a wreath...

The chenille dog ornament was found on etsy several years ago...

This year we bought a flocked artificial tree.
I have wanted a flocked tree for many years and we love it!

The little girl in the Santa hat is a porcelain bell ornament
that was my husband's grandmother's...

I had fun making these cute gnome ornaments from
Better Homes and Gardens this year...instructions HERE

The tree is beautiful all lit up...

I hope you've enjoyed seeing some of what we've done here!  This will be my last post of 2014...I am going to be enjoying some time with my family and celebrating Christmas.  I am so grateful for all of your visits and supportive comments this year!  I wish you all a wonderful Christmas and a Happy New Year!

  1. Everything looks so festive. You have Santa mugs, too. I stick a rooted cutting of something, preferably a piece of Christmas Cactus with a blossom or two, in a yogurt cup or something that will fit inside a Santa mug. Wax-leaf begonias work well, too.

  5. Very nice! I especially like the dining room hutch. I put out a lot of my vintage stuff this year. I even hung a macrame tree that I made in 1980 and had never hung before. Since I'm vintage now my original ornaments and decorations are vintage too!

Love your flocked tree! I've been wanting one for a couple of years and am hoping I might find one on clearance this year for next year's tree. Can I ask where you found yours? Do you still love it?

  15. Your home is decorated beautifully, Linda! I painted that same Norwegian Santa years ago and I looked for my signature to be sure it wasn't painted by me! I love all your vintage collectibles, especially those mischievous little elves. The best Christmas decorations are those that have history behind them, and your apron, rosemaled bowl and sweet angel ornament are irreplaceable. Thank you for another year of blogging friendship and I wish you and your family a very Merry Christmas, Linda!
