This and That...and a Simple Project...

It's good to be back sharing on the blog after a little break!  I've enjoyed some special family time and also took advantage of the down time to replace my computer.  I've needed a new one for quite awhile, and am really enjoying the speed on my new one.

Do you choose a word for the new year?  My word for 2015 is "Explore"!

Explore

I want to continue to learn and try new things.  So I am starting with learning a new operating system on my computer, as well as replacing my old version of Photoshop Elements with Photoshop and Lightroom.  So I have some exploring to do!

Before Christmas, I was inspired by this photo from Vickie of Ranger 911...

Vickie has such a charming, whimsical decorating style...I just love seeing what she's up to!  Isn't this a fun vignette?  Her wonderful old chippy wood tray (don't you love that green edge?) brought to mind a wood tray I found at the thrift store.

It has 3 fun little ball feet, too...

The finish was flaky, so a light sanding gave it some age...

I used two DecoArt Americana acrylic colors-
Sea Aqua, with just a touch of Soft Blue added...

I painted the edge and the ball feet...gave it a sanding to distress it, and sealed it with some DecoArt Americana Clear Wax.

I think it will be fun to use for so many things...

Thank you, Vickie, for the wonderful inspiration!

A really great word for 2015, Linda! It would be so wonderful if we had the curiosity that we had when we were children.

  4. Perfect reproduction of Vickie's piece. Glad you got a new computer. I may be joining you on the Photoshop/Lightroom journey. I have loved my Elements, but my version is 3 or 4 years old and they've made so many changes to it since then. I might as well upgrade to the big girl version of Photoshop.

  11. Love this and I think I may have a similar wooden stand in my thrift store stash. I also like your word for the year. Explore - it is good word for 2015.

  12. Wow, Linda! You've made that painted edge look so authentically vintage that you've got me wondering if mine is original or the work of a talented painter! And now I think I need a sweet brown transferware teacup and saucer like yours. I love it!

My laptop is ready to be replaced, but I've been holding off because I don't want to have to learn how to navigate Windows 8. I'm glad you enjoyed your family time during the holidays and it's nice to see you back. Happy New Year!

  13. I love Vickie's blog and I too fell head over heels in love with her chippy edged tray. Yours turned out wonderful! I would love to run across something similar. Hubby just bought me a new laptop and I am vowing to learn more. Seems like I am always busy and don't take the time. He assigned me to watch a couple of learning videos. lol! Hopefully I will do my homework and get an A.
    hugs,
    Jann

  15. On the tray, you could screw on a doo-hicky that would make it like a lazy Susan. I like how you aged it. The color was just right!
