Redecorating Progress at the Lakehouse

Hope you are having a wonderful summer!
Mine has been busy and eventful!  We have been busy traveling between houses as we prepare to sell, and move.  Lots of moving furniture
and redecorating work has been going on!
We're tired, but we relax with sunsets like this in the evening!

Lakehouse Redecorating- Itsy Bits And And Pieces

I thought I'd share some of the finished work in our bedroom with you today!
You might remember the floors in the upstairs
were covered with three different UGLY carpet remnants...

We ripped up the carpeting, and planned to use the old wood floor.
It was covered with glue and was going to end up being more work and money to refinish than we wanted to do.  So instead, we went with a wide plank laminate
that looks beautiful in the space, and will be great with all the family and pets.
We also added additional molding pieces.

This room has nice architectural interest with a gabled ceiling and window alcove.

The walls were painted gray with white trim and we did a fun project to give the look of an exposed brick chimney!  The area had an old curved bookcase that was awful looking, and when we went to remove it, we found the boards were covering large floor and ceiling holes from an old stovepipe chimney.  So we decided to take lemons and make lemonade by boxing it in with brick look paneling. Then I used drywall compound to spread over much of the bricks and mortar, and distressed it with a sanding block.  I used watered down gray paint to add
to some of the brick edges for even more of a 3-D look.
We are very happy with this $25 addition to the room!

A black iron headboard was added to the bed.

I bought a cubby for the closet area, but it didn't work out there.
But it was perfect used in the window alcove, for a cozy reading nook!

We brought a chair from our living room, and are bringing a dresser from the house, too.  We hung an old fishing creel basket and binoculars,
and an 1880's Norwegian sailing print.

A vintage alabaster lamp worked perfectly in the space, when I added a narrow oval shade.  It's been great to reuse so much of what we already had, in new ways!

There will be more decorating, but it is a really cozy space!

You may have seen some of my photos on my Instagram page.  I haven't had a lot of time to blog lately, as we are on the road a lot...but I am always adding update photos on my Instagram as well as on my Itsy Bits And Pieces Facebook Page.
I hope you'll stop by and join me on these sites!
Here's a few of the lakehouse photos I've shared recently...

  2. Love the new space...the bricks look fabulous...do you think this same treatment would work to whitewash real bricks??? Rather than white paint??? Seems like it might be easier. Thanks!

    1. Thank you, Jeanne! You could sure try it! You could wash it off with water if you didn't like the look. You could seal it when you had a good look. I think plaster would work for a good technique on real brick, too. Maybe check Pinterest for suggestions...lots of info there!
