A Fun Re-Use Project

As you may know, we have been transitioning in a move to our family lakehouse.  It has been a job moving from our home of 32 years...going through what we have and deciding what will make the move with us.

We have donated a lot, furniture has found new homes
at our children's homes, and we have reused much of it in our new home.
Today I thought I'd share how we reused something in a new way!
This cabinet was one we built 20 years ago as a display piece for a antique booth.  It has been a bookcase, toy storage, and has had several other uses.  At the lakehouse, we had books on it, and toys were stored in picnic baskets.
It was just too much visual clutter to me!

We decided that while it needs to be storage, we would use it for other purposes and in a more decorative way.  You might remember the old beadboard doors we displayed in our sunporch at our house. I displayed many things on them over the years and really wanted to use them in the lakehouse, if I could.

We decided to reuse them as doors for the cabinet!
Viking Man retrofitted the cabinet to fit the old doors.

I used chalk paint to recoat the whole front,
and it will be coated with matte varnish, too.
(I am a blogger for DecoArt, but this is not a sponsored project)

We decided we like the backs of the doors for display,
and we decided to keep the old finish, too.

We love how it looks in the room now!  Much less clutter.  It will be used as a bookcase, holding the record player, and one or two shelves will be holding linens for guests who sometimes sleep in this area.  We have had some big family sleepovers here, our biggest group was 24, so we use all of our space!

I keep vintage suitcases on top, and the doors will be pretty for wreaths or flowers!

It has been a fun challenge finding new ways to reuse favorite pieces!

Until next time...
