A So Simple Project and July 4th Decor Ideas

Happy July to you!  Summer is here in full force with temps all weekend in the 90's and high humidity!  But what else would we expect from July?

A So Simple Project- Itsy Bits And Pieces Blog

This week I thought I'd share a so simple project with you!
You know I love projects that make an impact and are easy to do. And I especially love taking a thrift store find and re-using it!

I have always loved the look of an old ice cream maker bucket, like this...

The buckets are so decorative and can be used so many ways.
I rarely run into one at the thrift store and when I do they are really pricey.  So when I found this at the thrift, I knew exactly what I wanted to do.

It is a nice popcorn bucket, but I already have a popcorn bowl and I was much more interested in the wood bucket itself!

I love the metal banding...

It was a simple makeover.  I removed the plastic liner and gave the whole piece a wash of turquoise paint, avoiding the metal bands.  It's looking a little too bright and new, though.

So I watered down some gray paint and gave the whole piece a coat of that.  And I went over it again more heavily in different areas...that helped to give it a nice look!

I kept the liner in case I want to use it with plants, but I had something else in mind.  Recently I found a couple of bags of old wood clothespins at the thrift store and many were the wire-wrapped type that I particularly love.

So, I am using the bucket to display them along with some other vintage laundry collectibles.
