A Fun Thrift Store Find and a Simple Halloween Project

Thought I'd pop in to share a fun thrift store find and a simple Halloween project I made with it! I always enjoy seeing what's at the thrift store and ways I can re-use some of it!  Recently I found this cute owl shaped cutting board.  Being gluten free, I can't trust using it for food use, so it was perfect for a little project!

I wanted a dark silhouette look, so I painted it a deep, nearly black gray.
When it was dry, I used a set of tiny LED battery lights, and taped them to the back.

I inserted two bulbs into the eyes and taped them, as well.

Now it's ready to use where I want a spooky owl...

Aren't the red eyes fun?

This could also be made by getting an owl silhouette pattern off pinterest...and cutting out a silhouette from wood, or simply cutting and painting a piece of foam core from the dollar store, for a quick Halloween decoration!

  2. This is so cute! The eyes are the bomb, Linda!! I once saw an owl flying at the lake--- in daylight, which is weird. I've been so curious since. Creative idea, as always!

  5. Such a fun idea, Linda, and suitably spooky. I'm sure I would great a fright every single time I walk into the room :-)
